The North Sea has the potential to become Europe’s green energy powerhouse.

It could deliver up to 300 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050, which is equivalent to around 40% of Europe’s future electricity demand.
However, realising this ambition will require close cooperation between governments, transmission system operators (TSOs), offshore wind developers, and industry, as well as across borders.
Over the past 15 months, Manon van Beek, CEO of TenneT, has had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Offshore TSO Collaboration (OTC), a regional alliance of twelve electricity transmission system operators from nine European countries that are working together towards developing a coordinated offshore grid in the North Sea.
During this period, the OTC has published four expert papers covering key aspects of this ambition, from presenting the first coordinated offshore grid map to proposing cost-sharing and financing models for offshore interconnection projects.
Van Beek is delighted that Fintan Slye will now take over as Chair of the OTC. She is confident that he will provide strong leadership as the OTC enters its next phase, further advancing its work and strengthening engagement with key stakeholders, thereby contributing to our shared objective of developing and implementing an integrated, cost-efficient and resilient offshore grid infrastructure in the North Sea.
This transition is an important next step in the OTC’s ongoing efforts to realise the enormous renewable energy potential of the North Sea and establish it as a cornerstone of Europe’s future energy system.
