Open Door Process
Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname has received the fifth proposal for an offshore area in Sector 1: SHO West.
Staatsolie announced the submission on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Under its Open-Door process, qualified companies now have 90 days to submit competing proposals for the same area.
The submission period opened on Tuesday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3. It will close on Monday, December 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3.
This is the fifth proposal received through the process since June. It also extends proposal activity to four offshore sectors as Staatsolie works to attract exploration investment outside traditional licensing rounds.
The recent activity began with a proposal for an area in Sector 4: DW West on June 17. Staatsolie then received two separate proposals for Sector 3: Demerara on July 6. A fourth proposal, covering an area in Sector 2: SHO East, was announced on July 7.
The Open-Door process allows qualified companies to submit proposals for available offshore acreage. Once Staatsolie receives an initial proposal, it opens a competitive window for other eligible companies to bid for the same area.
The activity comes as Suriname prepares for its first offshore oil production. TotalEnergies, APA Corporation, and Staatsolie are developing the GranMorgu project in Block 58. The project is expected to begin production in the first half of 2028.
