Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname has received the fourth proposal under its Open Acreage model, extending a run of offshore proposal activity as Suriname works to advance its oil production ambitions.
The state oil company announced on July 7, 2026, that it received a proposal for an area in Sector 2: SHO EAST, offshore Suriname.
The announcement means Staatsolie has now received proposal activity across three offshore sectors in less than a month.
A proposal was received for Sector 4: DW WEST on June 17. Two separate proposals were received for Sector 3: DEMERARA on July 6.
The latest proposal adds to momentum around Staatsolie’s Open-Door Process, which allows qualified companies to pursue available offshore acreage outside a traditional licensing round.
Under the process, qualified companies now have an opportunity to submit competing proposals for the area in Sector 2: SHO EAST.
The submission period opened on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3. It will remain open for 90 days and close on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3.
The activity comes as Suriname moves closer to becoming an offshore oil producer. Its first major offshore oil project, GranMorgu, is being developed in Block 58 by TotalEnergies, APA Corporation, and Staatsolie. The project is expected to anchor the country’s transition from offshore discoveries to commercial production.
Staatsolie has been seeking to keep exploration interest active beyond Block 58. The open acreage process gives companies another route to assess offshore opportunities while Suriname prepares for first oil from GranMorgu.
Suriname’s offshore campaign is part of a broader industry interest in the Guyana-Suriname Basin, where discoveries in Guyana have already moved into large-scale production and Suriname is working to bring its first offshore development on stream.
