IJmuiden Ver Gamma
Construction of the jacket for IJmuiden Ver Gamma has officially started at Heerema Fabrication Group’s yard in Vlissingen with the ceremonial first steel cut.

It is the second substructure for TenneT’s new generation of 2 gigawatt (2GW) offshore converter platforms to be built at the yard.
As the jacket for IJmuiden Ver Beta continues to take shape, work is now also getting underway on the next 2GW jacket.
For the construction of the offshore converter platforms for IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 2, TenneT is working with main contractor GE Vernova–Seatrium.
The consortium has commissioned Heerema Fabrication Group in Vlissingen to build the three jackets.
The first steel cut marks the start of steel fabrication for the jacket. Over the next two years, large steel sections will be assembled, welded and given protective coatings. These sections will ultimately be joined together to form the complete substructure supporting the offshore converter platform for IJmuiden Ver Gamma.
The same construction process for the IJmuiden Ver Beta jacket began in September 2025.

The jackets for IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 2 are being built according to the same standardised 2GW design, explains Shantanu Singh, Sub Project Lead at TenneT.
“This means that the design, construction methods and experience gained can be reused from one project to the next. A year ago, we made the first steel cut here for IJmuiden Ver Beta, and now we are already starting work on the next jacket.”
“You can think of the construction of the three jackets as a train,” Singh explains. “We started IJmuiden Ver Beta in September 2025. That jacket is expected to head offshore in the summer of 2027. We are now starting IJmuiden Ver Gamma, which is running roughly a year behind Beta and is scheduled to go offshore in 2028. Nederwiek 2 will follow. Each year, the next jacket moves through the process, with the different construction phases increasingly running in parallel at the yard.”
