ScottishPower seeks consent for 2GW MachairWind OWP

Wednesday, June 24 2026

Application

ScottishPower Renewables has submitted an application for offshore consent to the Scottish Government for its proposed MachairWind offshore wind project, which is located off the coast of the Inner Hebrides.

The project is one of the developments awarded through Scotland’s ScotWind leasing round and is expected to contribute to the expansion of the country’s offshore renewable energy capacity.

The fixed-bottom offshore wind farm is planned to include up to 144 wind turbines and two offshore substations.

Once completed, the project could provide up to 2 GW of installed generating capacity, making it one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind developments.

ScottishPower Renewables said the project is intended to connect to the National Grid near Girvan in Ayrshire.

Grid connection is currently targeted for the early to mid-2030s, subject to obtaining the necessary approvals and construction timelines.
