TWP submits offshore plans for Bowdun OWF

Wind Energy – Bowdun OWF

Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has achieved another key milestone in the development of the Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm project by submitting its offshore consent application to the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate.

This marks a significant step forward for the fixed-bottom offshore wind project, which is expected to deliver 1GW of renewable energy to the national grid once operational — enough to supply the equivalent of more than 1.2 million homes.

During the five-year construction phase, Bowdun is anticipated to support over 700 jobs across Scotland, in addition to creating approximately 60 long-term positions through its future operations and maintenance activities.

With the offshore consent application now submitted, the full project is officially under review, covering both the onshore and offshore components. The onshore application was submitted to Aberdeenshire Council in November 2025, and together these applications represent a major milestone in bringing the project to fruition.

Since its establishment in 2022, TWP has prepared and submitted four major consent applications across its ScotWind portfolio, including both the onshore and offshore elements of the Bowdun project as well as the Ayre Offshore Wind Farm project.
