ABLE secures Solan Oil Storage Tank decommissioning contract

Sunday, May 10 2026

General – Decommissioning

ABLE has been awarded the contract for the load-in, demolition and disposal of the Solan subsea oil storage tank (SOST).

This is an offshore structure from the Solan field, owned by Harbour Energy.

Awarded by Heerema Marine Contractors, the scope covers a c.13,400‑tonne oil storage tank, measuring around 45m x 45m x 25m.

Part of this award is the further development of the Able Seaton Port West Yard. To safely receive and dismantle a structure of this scale, ABLE is constructing a non‑permeable, heavy‑duty concrete working base, engineered to manage loadings while ensuring full containment and sustainable removal of any residual fluids.

The new pad, around 15,000m² and adjacent to Able Seaton Port Quay 1, will be delivered through a nine‑month construction programme, representing a major infrastructure investment alongside live operational activities. It reinforces our commitment to continually future‑proofing our port facilities for the next generation of offshore decommissioning projects.

This project builds on decades of collaboration with Heerema, from the early days of offshore platform dismantling through to more recent campaigns such as the Murdoch Field.
