Wind Energy – France

Summit Renewable Power, the European offshore wind arm of Sumitomo Corporation, is proud to announce the construction completion of the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier offshore wind farm in France.

Located in the Bay of Biscay off the Atlantic coast of western France, approximately 12 km offshore and neighbouring the eponymous islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, the fixed bottom offshore wind farm has an installed capacity of 488 MW. With power boost, its 61 wind turbines of 8 MW can produce up to 512 MW. Over its projected lifetime of 25 years, it will generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 500,000 French homes.

The project reached mechanical completion on 27th April 2026, almost exactly ten years after receiving development consent. While this development timeline may appear lengthy at first glance, it reflects the realities of an offshore wind market that was still in its early stages at the time, combined with the challenging metocean and geological conditions of the Atlantic.

Notably, Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier was developed in parallel by the same team as its sister project Dieppe-Le Tréport, making this milestone an especially strong achievement.

This success is the result of the outstanding performance of the Summit Renewable Power GmbH‑led EPCI, PMO and O&M teams, as well as close and effective collaboration with a highly capable supply chain, including:

. Siemens Gamesa (turbine supply) and Jan De Nul Group (installation)

· Dajin Heavy Industry Co. (monopile supply), Eiffage (TP supply), and DEME Group (installation)

· Prysmian (inter array cables supply) and LD Travocean (installation)

· Chantiers de l’Atlantique (offshore substation topside supply), Navantia Seanergies (jacket supply), and DEME Group (transport & installation).

One of the project highlights was the deployment of DEME Group’s MODIGA installation concept for drilled and grouted monopiles. When contracted, this technology was unmatched in scale and suitability for the local soil conditions in the Atlantic and has since demonstrated exceptional performance throughout project execution.

Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier is jointly owned by OW Ocean Winds 40%, Groupe Caisse des Dépôts 9.75%, Vendée Energie 0.5%, Allianz Global Investors 20.25%, and Sumitomo Corporation 29.5%.

Sumitomo Corporation looks forward to the successful long‑term operation of the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier offshore wind farm and will remain closely involved in the project through Summit Renewable Power.
