Wind Energy – France

With foundation work nearly complete by DEME’s Innovation, Jan De Nul’s Vole au Vent is now preparing to begin turbine installation at the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier.

The Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier offshore wind project is entering a new phase as Jan De Nul’s jack-up vessel, Vole au Vent, mobilizes for turbine installation. The vessel will install SG-8.0-167 turbines manufactured by Siemens Gamesa, marking the next major step toward completing the project.

At the same time, DEME’s jack-up vessel Innovation is approaching the final stages of foundation installation, following months of intensive drilling and piling work — a technically challenging and time-consuming process.

With foundations almost fully installed, the site is ready for turbine installation to begin. Developed by Ocean Winds, the Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farm will host 62 turbines, delivering a total installed capacity of 496 MW.

Once completed, it will supply substantial renewable energy to France’s electricity grid. With Vole au Vent now in transit to the site, the offshore wind industry is set to witness the next critical stage of this landmark project.
