Wind Energy – South Korea
The Global Wind Energy Council has published a map outlining how South Korea is structuring the expansion of its offshore wind sector across several key coastal regions.

The designated zones together represent more than 11 gigawatts of potential generation capacity, forming one of the most significant coordinated offshore wind development pipelines currently emerging in the Asia-Pacific region.
The identified areas reflect a structured planning approach led in large part by local governments. Authorities have taken a proactive role in identifying suitable sites and preparing development zones in anticipation of long-term offshore wind deployment.
Community engagement has also played an important role in the designation process. Public hearings and dialogue with multiple stakeholders have helped build local acceptance for offshore wind development, a factor seen as critical for advancing large-scale projects in coastal areas.
Officials have framed the zones as part of a broader effort to secure long-term development areas for offshore wind, providing greater certainty for investors and project developers.
As offshore wind deployment accelerates across Asia-Pacific, analysts say coordinated planning between policy frameworks, grid infrastructure, and supply chains will be essential to deliver projects at scale.
