Second SRI for Van Oord at Yantai CIMC

Thursday, January 15 2026

General – Newbuilding

On 12 January, CIMC Raffles signed the construction contract for the second multi-fuel  Subsea Rock Installation Vessel (SRI) with Van Oord.

This agreement further enhances the trust established since their renewed partnership in 2021 and marks another step forward in their collaboration.

The new-generation SRI vessel will be classed by Bureau Veritas (BV) and features industry-leading standards in design, performance, and environmental protection.

The vessel measures 199 meters in length, has a beam of 32.2 meters, is equipped with DP2 dynamic positioning, and can carry up to 35,000 tons of rock, making it well-suited for large offshore construction projects.

The sustainable design of the vessel features multi-fuel engines (biofuel and methanol), a DC grid with large battery storage capacity, and an energy-efficient hull design along with a rock handling system. These technologies help reduce CO₂ emissions.

In July 2025, the two parties signed a 1+1 vessel SRI contract, which included an option clause allowing Van Oord to place an additional order within an agreed timeframe.
