General – Climate Target
Last week, European ministers reached an agreement on the 2040 climate target.
They decided that by 2040, emissions must be reduced by 90% compared to 1990 levels.
This is an important milestone on the path to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The discussion focused on the feasibility of the target and the associated challenges, which differ for each Member State.
This will also form the basis of the mandate for our ministers who will attend COP30 in Brazil this week.
