TotalEnergies gets green light to decommission UK FPSO

Saturday, September 6 2025

General – Decommissioning

TotalEnergies has been given the green light to decommission its Gryphon Alpha FPSO following a failed legal challenge mounted by a UK independent earlier this year.

TotalEnergies permanently shuttered the FPSO at the end of last year as part of a broader plan to decommission the Gryphon field, a decision challenged in the UK courts by Nobel Upstream.

Nobel argued that the closure would force it to abandon production at the nearby Maclure and Ballindalloch field and, as such, should not have been recommended for approval by the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA).
