Fossil Energy – Schoonebeek
Hein Dek, Corporate Relations Team Lead at NAM announced on social media that the start-up of NAM’s on shore oil production in Schoonebeek, the Netherlands has come a step closer.
Last week the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy has adopted two draft decisions that will make oil extraction possible again. The decisions are the culmination of an area process that started two years ago.
Hein Dek: “As a company, when oil extraction is profitable on an annual basis, we have pledged a contribution of 1 euro per barrel of oil produced to the environment. This amounts to an expected contribution of 30 – 45 million over the duration of oil extraction. After consultation with the region and the State Secretary, we have also agreed that the NAM will pay out an extra 0.50 euros per barrel produced if the average oil price (in a year) is above 80 euros per barrel. This is likely to increase the expected contribution, to around 30-60 million euros over the duration of oil extraction.”
This contribution per barrel of oil produced is easy to measure and in this way Schoonebeek and the surrounding hamlets also benefit when oil is produced. The region now also provides extra information when the oil price is high.
The draft decisions have been made available for inspection and residents and organisations are allowed to give their opinion before the decisions are finalised.
