Wind Energy – Fourth WInd Project USA
The Business Network for Offshore Wind in the US announced that the nation’s fourth commercial scale offshore wind project passed a major regulatory milestone this week and now sits one month away from construction approval.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for Ørsted and Eversource’s Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island. Based off the findings of the FEIS, BOEM will issue its final Record of Decision (ROD) after 30 days with a final decision on the project’s environmental approval to begin construction.
Revolution Wind is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 300,000 homes and has already secured offtake agreements to deliver 304 MW of offshore wind generation to Connecticut and 400 MW to Rhode Island.
If approved, Revolution Wind would be the fourth commercial-scale U.S. offshore wind project to receive final environmental approval under the Biden-Harris administration. Vineyard Wind, South Fork Wind, and Ocean Wind 1 have received RODs for their projects, two of which began installation in Q2 of 2023.
