Fossil Energy – North Sea
For the development of gas field N05-A in the North Sea, ONE-Dyas has signed extensive contracts with, among others, Allseas, HMC and HSM Offshore Energy.
This marks an important next step in ensuring security of supply of natural gas, the energy transition and the Dutch (knowledge) economy.
After the Dutch government issued the final permits in June 2022, ONE-Dyas together with partners EBN and Hansa Hydrocarbons made a final investment decision for the development of the N05-A gas field in the Dutch and German North Sea in September 2022.
This decision involves an investment of over €500 million; the largest Dutch investment in a natural gas development in the past 15 years.
Acceleration of North Sea gas
With this development, ONE-Dyas is actively contributing to increasing the Dutch energy supply and significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to import gas. The development of this gas field stands for safe and responsible domestic natural gas and is in line with the policy of Dutch government, which chooses to accelerate the production of North Sea natural gas and limit the import of natural gas as much as possible. ONE-Dyas has agreed with the Dutch and German governments to produce natural gas only as long as there is domestic demand for natural gas.
Taking responsibility
Chris de Ruyter van Steveninck, CEO of ONE-Dyas, says: “We are going all out to deliver this North Sea gas to Dutch and German households and businesses by autumn 2024. This is why we have entered into these strategic partnerships. We bring emissions to the absolute minimum, as the nearby offshore wind farm Riffgat supplies the platform N05-A with wind energy. This makes it the gas development with the lowest emissions in the North Sea.”
“It is great to be involved in an energy project with such strategic importance for the Netherlands,” said Pieter Heerema, President of Allseas. “Natural gas is one of the most important fuels in the energy transition and with the installation of this pipeline, Allseas contributes to the still growing need for safe, reliable and affordable energy supply in the Netherlands.”
Hans Leerdam, commercial director of HSM Offshore Energy, says: “HSM is fully committed to the energy transition through its EPCI activities in offshore wind and hydro. The transition to 100% renewable energy takes time; offshore natural gas developments will remain a component in the energy mix for decades to come. HSM is proud to support ONE-Dyas in the construction of the N05-A platform to be powered by wind energy from the offshore Riffgat wind farm.”
