European Parliament endorsed report on future offshore wind

Thursday, February 17 2022

Wind Energy – EC

Yesterday the European Parliament endorsed MEP Morten Helveg Petersen’s important report on the future of offshore wind.

It confirmed the European Commission’s vision for offshore wind to become the backbone of Europe’s electricity system and deliver 300-450 GW by 2050.

The wind industry stands ready to deliver. But the report perfectly describes the necessary actions to deliver this significant expansion of offshore wind: we need to invest in grids, ports, and in the European supply chain. We must make the most of offshore hybrid projects. And we need to scale up floating offshore wind to allow for offshore wind installations in all sea basins around Europe, including the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black Sea.
