Contracting sources said offers to decommission 53 subsea pipelines were submitted to Chevron on 16 October by four bidding groups — Malaysia’s SapuraEnergy; Malaysia’s AlamMaritim, together with PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation; Thailand’s STP&I, with Indonesia’s Timas Suplindo; and Thailand’s Mermaid Maritime, in partnership with Indonesia’s Meindo ElangIndah.
Some of the vessels that have been proposed for the work include the Sapura 1200, a heavy-lift pipelay vessel with a 1200-tonne crane; the Timas 1201, also a heavy-lift pipelay barge with a 1200-tonne crane; the derrick laybarges KP1 and Hops30000, and others.
Contracting sources said the derrick lay barges were probably at a disadvantage as they would be slower to cope with removing 53 pipelines with an average length of about five kilometres each.
A contract award is being targeted for November 2020.
