General – Farewell
A fond farewell for Shell President Director Marjan van Loon yesterday.
At a music-filled event themed ‘Crescendo’, Marjan passed the baton to Frans Everts.
A talented sax-player herself, Marjan compared her seven years in the role with playing in a band. In harmony with many others, but also willing to play solo to allow your own sound to take centre stage.
Former Shell CEO Ben van Beurden told the audience that Marjan has been a true pioneer throughout her career. She made headlines when she started her study Chemistry, with local newspapers gushing ‘Girl decides to study Technology’.
She then took her career to Malaysia and Australia, and today she is the first female President Director for Shell. A true role model: From ‘Girl decides to study technology’ to become the woman who leads the largest company in the country.
Shell CEO Wael Sawan spoke of a landmark occasion and praised Marjan’s leadership, especially on tough topics like the energy transition. Led by Marjan, Shell has committed to 6.5 billion Euros worth of investments, making it the largest investor in the energy transition in the country.
