LanWin
50Hertz has commissioned Fugro to conduct unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey, identification and clearance services for the LanWin3 and LanWin6 offshore grid connection.
Identifying and addressing any potential hazards should help prepare the routes for safe installation of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables that will connect the developments to the German grid.
LanWin3 and LanWin6’s grid connections will facilitate a combined transmission capacity of 4 GW.
Fugro will deploy two of its fixed magnetic gradiometer array Geowing systems, each equipped with 10 magnetic sensors to detect potential UXO and other objects on or under the seafloor.
The survey will generate geo-data for mapping potential targets and devising a master target list for further investigation.
Further inspection and identification activities will follow in 2028, using ROV technology and other detection systems to investigate selected targets and remove debris where needed.
In addition, Fugro will support removal and disposal of any confirmed UXO in compliance with regulatory requirements.
