Duqm pipeline feasibility work

Oil Pipeline

TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné told the company’s investor day in New York on 28 September that Saudi Arabia had begun to work on an oil pipeline to Duqm on Oman’s coast, outside the Strait of Hormuz.

Rahul Choudhary, Vice President of upstream research at Rystad Energy, said the pipeline is understood to be at the feasibility study stage, estimating its length at about 1,000 km and development cost at up to $7 billion (about AED 25.7 billion). He noted Oman’s Ras Markaz port could be a possible destination, given its distance from Iran.

Aramco CEO Amin Nasser told Nikkei Asia on 24 September that the company was carrying out engineering and feasibility work on a fourth and fifth export route, without specifying locations.

A pipeline to Oman’s Arabian Sea coast would avoid both Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
