COOEC wins QatarEnergy subsea package as regional awards top $7bn

Maydan Mahzam

China’s CNOOC Engineering (COOEC) has won the EPIC2 package for QatarEnergy’s Maydan Mahzam offshore redevelopment project, taking the value of its Middle East contracts secured over the past three years above RMB50bn ($7bn).

The Tianjin-based contractor said the package covers engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPIC) work. Its scope includes more than 100km of subsea pipelines, cables and umbilicals, alongside associated offshore infrastructure.

COOEC did not disclose the value of this individual contract; the $7bn figure refers to its cumulative regional awards.

The award follows QatarEnergy’s selection of PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) in September for a separate package on the Maydan Mahzam redevelopment. PTSC’s work covers design, procurement, construction, transportation, offshore installation, connection, commissioning, modifications and upgrades across the field cluster.
