Surveys
In addition to the geophysical survey contract announced on 17 July 2026, Fugro has secured two further contracts from Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPRM).
These contracts are in support of the Greater Sunrise TLNG development and the Bayu-Undan Pipeline Highway projects.
These comprise a major heavy geotechnical survey and a metocean survey, both of which are part of a wider survey campaign for the proposed pipeline routes.
This campaign will support the construction of the Greater Sunrise gas export pipeline from the Greater Sunrise field to Timor-Leste, as well as the Bayu-Undan pipeline highway to Natarbora, which is planned for the TLNG development on the south coast of Timor-Leste.
Together, the surveys will provide a comprehensive understanding of the seabed and subsurface conditions along the proposed pipeline routes to inform route selection and future engineering work.
Fieldwork for the six-month geotechnical survey and the twelve-month metocean survey is planned to commence in the first quarter of 2027, following geophysical work in the third quarter of 2026.
The programme will combine Fugro’s technology with its Seafloor Drill and SeaScout 35 MKII Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) systems in order to collect critical ground intelligence in the challenging ultra-deepwater environment of the Timor Trough, where water depths reach 3,000 metres.
Fugro’s Remote Operations Centre in Kuala Lumpur will support the project, enabling real-time collaboration between offshore and onshore experts to enhance operational efficiency, quality assurance, and safe project delivery.
