Chinese Turbine

Envision Energy has unveiled its next-generation EN-252/16.7 offshore wind turbine.

The turbine is designed to deliver higher energy production, enhanced reliability and improved project economics.

The new turbine has a rated capacity of 16.7 MW and features a high-performance rotor specifically tailored to the European market. Its design combines vertically integrated component technologies with advanced safety and grid capabilities, as well as AI-powered lifecycle monitoring.

With a swept-area-to-power ratio of approximately 2.99 square metres per kilowatt, the EN-252/16.7 is expected to deliver around 1% to 2% higher annual energy production for gigawatt-scale offshore wind farms.

Christian Schrimpf, executive vice president of offshore wind at Envision Energy, said: “The next phase of offshore wind is not simply about increasing turbine scale. The real value of scale lies in how effectively it translates into higher energy production, greater reliability and stronger economics across the project lifecycle.”

The design is based on Envision Energy’s proven Model Z platform, which has more than a decade of offshore operational experience.

Extensive testing has been carried out, including drivetrain system loading tests and more than 600 hours of accelerated life testing to assess drivetrain system interactions under challenging operating conditions.
