Floating Wind Japan
TAISEI Corporation, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) and Hokkaido Electric Power have been selected by NEDO for a project aimed at reducing the cost of floating offshore wind power.
As Japan works toward its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, offshore wind power is expected to play a major role in expanding renewable energy.
To support this growth, it is important to lower costs while establishing a stable domestic supply chain.
In a previous NEDO project conducted in 2024 and 2025, the three companies developed and evaluated key technologies for concrete floating foundations and deep-water mooring systems, addressing challenges related to their practical deployment.
Building on the achievements of that earlier project, the new initiative will further advance the technology and support the commercialization of Japan’s first concrete semi-submersible floating foundation for offshore wind turbines.
