Suriname and Venezuela have signed a 2026–2027 roadmap for cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector.

The agreement was one of 10 cooperation documents signed during Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez Gómez’s official visit to Paramaribo on September 11.

Suriname’s Minister of Oil, Gas and Environment, Patrick Brunings, and Venezuela’s Minister of People’s Power for Hydrocarbons, Paula Ernau, signed the roadmap. Specific projects and investment values were not announced.

A separate memorandum between the Venezuelan University of Hydrocarbons and Anton de Kom University of Suriname covers knowledge exchange and training related to hydrocarbons and supporting services.

The wider package also addresses agriculture, fisheries, aviation, tourism, higher education, vocational training, and diplomatic cooperation.
