ExxonMobil expects continued offshore exploration and increased natural gas development to play a major role in Guyana’s economic growth over the next decade.

The company plans to continue exploring and appraising discoveries in the Stabroek Block, helping maintain a pipeline of future oil projects.

At the same time, ExxonMobil sees natural gas as an increasingly important resource for power generation, industrial development and new onshore investment.

Gas from the Liza field is expected to supply around 50 million cubic feet per day to an integrated processing facility at Wales, supporting a 300-megawatt power plant.

Longer term, the proposed Berbice gas pipeline could bring significantly larger volumes of gas onshore, creating opportunities for new industries and attracting additional investment.

ExxonMobil Guyana President Alistair Routledge highlighted the potential for natural gas to help Guyana create more value from its domestic resources. Reliable gas and electricity supplies could support industries such as fertilizer production and alumina processing, while also strengthening the country’s expanding agricultural sector and its role as a supplier to regional and international markets.

Together, continued exploration, increased gas supply and new infrastructure could broaden Guyana’s development beyond crude oil exports and support greater economic diversification.
