Coverter Platforms

L&T Technology Services and Hitachi Energy have signed a 2 GW HVDC offshore wind transmission programme.

The programme covers six projects across the Netherlands and Germany.

The consortium will develop and deploy offshore converter platforms, supplying HVDC technology to connect 8 GW of North Sea renewable energy to onshore grids.

• Client: TenneT

• Total transmission capacity: 8 GW at 525 kV

• Projects covered: IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 (ongoing, Netherlands), Nederwiek 3 (new, Netherlands), LanWin 5 (new, Germany)

• Scope: Engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of offshore converter platforms and associated infrastructure

• L&T fabrication base: Kattupalli, India, supported by engineering centres in India and Sharjah, UAE

• Framework scope: Six projects with provisions for future opportunities.

The FCA is part of TenneT’s broader programme to transmit offshore renewable energy from the Dutch and German sectors of the North Sea to onshore power grids.
