Allseas to install critical subsea section of PRGT pipeline

Prince Rupert Gas Transmission

Western LNG has awarded Allseas the contract to install the critical subsea section of the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline in north-west Canada.

Located in the remote waters off the north-west coast of British Columbia, near the Alaskan border, the subsea pipeline is the final link in a 700-kilometre system that will transport Canadian natural gas to the planned Ksi Lisims LNG export facility on the Pacific coast.

Allseas’ work will involve laying approximately 50 kilometres of 36- and 48-inch concrete-coated pipeline to connect the onshore transmission system to the planned floating LNG facility on Pearse Island. Offshore installation activities are scheduled for 2029.

The pipelay vessels Solitaire and Sandpiper will carry out the work in water depths ranging from the shoreline to approximately 450 metres. This will include multiple shore crossings, shore pull-ins, above-water tie-ins, trenching activities, route stabilisation and pre- and post-lay span rectification.

The project’s remote location and the complex nearshore works make for a technically demanding installation campaign.

Once operational, the PRGT system will open up a new market for Canadian natural gas, increasing export opportunities and strengthening long-term energy security while supporting economic development in British Columbia.
