Namibia has approved TotalEnergies’ acquisition of operatorship of Galp Energia’s giant Mopane discovery in the Orange Basin.
This marks another milestone in the country’s emergence as one of the world’s most promising offshore oil frontiers.
The approval clears the way for TotalEnergies to assume operatorship of the highly prospective Mopane complex from Portugal’s Galp Energia.
As part of the agreement, Galp will also acquire a minority stake in TotalEnergies’ landmark Venus development, strengthening collaboration between the two energy companies as exploration and development activities accelerate offshore Namibia.
The transaction reflects growing confidence in Namibia’s offshore petroleum sector, where a series of significant discoveries over the past few years have attracted global energy giants and intensified international investment interest.
For TotalEnergies, the acquisition expands its strategic footprint in the Orange Basin, a region widely regarded as one of the most exciting new hydrocarbon provinces worldwide.
The French energy company already leads the development of the massive Venus discovery and will now oversee another high potential asset through the Mopane operatorship.
