Steel cutting ceremony for WTIV Hanwha Ocean

Saturday, July 11 2026

South Korea

Hanwha Ocean has officially commenced construction of its Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) with a steel-cutting ceremony.

Upon delivery, the vessel will play a key role in installing 15MW-class offshore wind turbines in Korea’s West Sea.

This is an EPCIO project in which Hanwha Ocean will be responsible not only for building the vessel, but also for operating it.

As the builder of the largest number of WTIVs in Korea, Hanwha Ocean has incorporated every lesson learned and improvement accumulated over the past decade into this vessel.

Key features include:

• Performance;

• Crane lifting capacity more than doubled compared to domestic WTIVs;

• Leg length extended by 18 meters to accommodate the offshore conditions of Korea’s West Sea;

• Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) designed to operate in tidal ranges of up to 11 meters;

• Capacity to transport up to four sets of 15MW wind turbines at once.
