Philippines pauses fifth green energy auction for recalibration

The Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) has placed on hold all activities under the fifth round of the country’s Green Energy Auction Programme (GEA-5).

The Programme was set to award 3.3 GW of fixed-bottom offshore wind capacity, pending a review of the auction’s implementation.

The pause is aimed at allowing the DOE and other government authorities to recalibrate the auction in light of several implementation considerations, including port readiness, permitting requirements, environmental and port-related costs, as well as the potential impact of global supply chain disruptions, such as those connected to the Middle East conflict.

The DOE said it will issue revised timelines and additional guidelines in due course.
