Mooring System

Modec has landed a contract to provide an internal turret mooring system for Eni’s Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique.

The Coral Norte vessel, designed to produce 3.6 million tonnes per annum of LNG, is being built by a joint venture of JGC, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Technip Energies, which also built the predecessor FLNG vessel, Coral Sul.

A final investment decision on Coral Norte was taken in October 2025, with the hull launch completed in January 2026 at Samsung’s Geoje shipyard in South Korea and first LNG targeted for 2028.

Japan-based Modec said on Wednesday that it has supported the project since its early stages and is progressing engineering and supply activities.

The Sofec turret mooring system will allow the vessel to weathervane safely in a metocean environment that is prone to cyclones.
