Floating Wind Norway
GoliatVIND has withdrawn its application for a licence to build and operate the GoliatVIND floating offshore wind demonstration project in Norway.
In a letter to the Norwegian energy department, the consortium said that it wished to update the ministry on the project’s situation and withdraw its licence application.
The company added that developments in the supply chain and market meant the project could not be completed within the required timeframe, resulting in Enova withdrawing its support award.
Initiated in 2023, the GoliatVIND project was intended to help reduce emissions from Norway’s oil and gas sector as part of the government’s floating offshore wind ambitions.
In March 2024, GoliatVIND received a commitment of NOK 2 billion support commitment from Enova, which the company said was crucial to implementing the project.
This funding was conditional on the facility entering operation within five years, with payments to be made following a final investment decision.
“Despite extensive efforts and investments from the GoliatVIND consortium, various developments in the supply chain and market mean that the project cannot be completed within the stipulated deadline,” the letter stated.
As a result, Enova has decided to withdraw the 2024 award to GoliatVIND.
The GoliatVIND consortium hereby notifies that the licence application for GoliatVIND is being withdrawn.
The letter was signed by GoliatVIND chairman Gunnar Birkeland.
