Prysmian completes project at RWE’s Sofia OWF

Wind Energy

Prysmian has completed its activity at RWE’s Sofia Offshore Wind Farm – one of the world’s largest offshore wind projects.

The wind farm, which will significantly boost renewable energy within the UK’s energy mix, is located on Dogger Bank in the North Sea and will be capable of generating up to 1.4 GW of power for consumers.

Sofia features 100 turbines and reaches a maximum depth of around 35m. It is located 195km from the nearest landfall (where the export cable meets the shore).

Prysmian was contracted by RWE for its flagship project in 2021, to take on the design, manufacturing, and installation of activities, and has since installed over 450km of high voltage cables – on land & at sea – using Prysmian’s Leonardo Da Vinci, its deep-sea cable-laying vessel.
