Wind Energy

Eight months after the Government of French Polynesia awarded it the project, TotalEnergies, through its wholly-owned project company Centre Manche Energies, has officially submitted the Single Authorisation application for the wind farm.

This development is a significant step in France’s offshore wind pipeline.

• Location: approximately 40 km off the coast of Normandy, France

• Capacity: 1.5 GW, with an expected annual output of around 6 TWh

• Estimated investment: €4.5 billion ($5.2 billion)

• Enough electricity is expected to be generated to power more than one million French homes.

• Construction employment: up to 2,500 jobs during the three-year build phase

• Supply chain focus: TotalEnergies intends to prioritise European suppliers, particularly for wind turbines and electric cables.

• Application scope: includes technical and environmental surveys, preliminary design and a planned installation programme.

• Next steps: the permitting process and a government review of the submitted assessment.

This project reflects the EU’s broader push to increase domestic offshore wind capacity while safeguarding the local clean energy supply chain from international competition.
