Wind Energy – Planning Consent
Yesterday, both the Dogger Bank South and North Falls projects were granted planning consent by the UK Secretary of State.

Global clean power leaders RWE and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar welcome the decision made by Lord Whitehead on behalf of the UK Energy Secretary’s legal authority to approve the Development Consent Order.
The proposed wind farms, DBS West and DBS East, are expected to have a combined installed capacity of 3 gigawatts (GW) and would be capable of producing enough electricity to power the equivalent of approximately three million UK homes annually.
The wind farms are set to be located over 100km off the northeast coast of England. Together they comprise up to 200 turbines. Each of the two 1.5-GW arrays secured a CfD in Allocation Round AR7 this January. With the DCO also in place, RWE is now moving into the final design phase and towards FID.
First power is currently targeted for 2030, with full commissioning in 2031/2032.
North Falls, RWE’s joint venture with SSE Renewables, is an extension of the existing Greater Gabbard wind farm with a capacity of up to 1 GW, located around 40 km off East Anglia.
With up to 57 turbines, the project will now target a future CfD round on its way to FID.
