General – Partnership
LS Cable has joined forces with Korea Electric Power Technology to implement a strategy aimed at leading the floating offshore wind market.
This agreement aims to establish a design-linked cooperation model by integrating LS Cable’s submarine cable technology with Korea Electric Power Technology’s EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) capabilities, thereby reflecting cable specifications from the power grid design stage onward.
The two companies plan to jointly participate from the initial engineering phase, optimizing the power grid and cable systems together.
Floating offshore wind power involves wind turbine structures and submarine cables floating on the sea, subject to a constantly moving environment. As a result, this field requires advanced technology that involves complex design considerations, not only for electrical performance but also for mechanical loads and fatigue.
LS Cable has developed Korea’s first dynamic submarine cable to address these environmental challenges. Currently, only a few companies worldwide – including LS Cable and several in Europe – possess ultra-high-voltage dynamic cable technology.
Korea Electric Power Technology has strengths in integrated mechanical and electrical design required for dynamic cable design, based on its power grid design capabilities accumulated through onshore power plant EPC projects and its marine environment analysis technology.
