Fossil Energy – Norway
Norway has confirmed plans to restart production at three gas fields containing enough reserves to heat millions of homes.
The project marks the first reopening of dormant North Sea gas fields in nearly three decades, as Norway moves to meet rising energy demand from Germany and the UK.
The additional supplies are expected to boost gas exports to the UK at a time when domestic British oil and gas production is declining by around 15% per year.
Steinar Våge, President Europe at ConocoPhillips, the energy company leading the reactivation project, said the three fields are expected to produce around 19 billion cubic metres of gas — enough to supply energy to as many as three million homes in the UK.
“By making use of existing infrastructure, we can develop significant resources at low cost while strengthening gas exports to Europe,” he said.
