Aker Solutions pens MoU to advance CCS in Europe

Monday, May 4 2026

General – CCS

Aker Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vår Energi and Knutsen NYK Carbon Carrier (KNCC) to advance the Trudvang CO₂ transportation and storage project in the Norwegian North Sea.

With a start-up targeted for 2029, Trudvang will enable CO₂ capture from several industrial sources and has the potential to store nine million tonnes of CO₂ per annum – almost 20 percent of Norway’s annual CO₂ emissions.

The project builds on more than 25 years of geological and operational experience from Sleipner, the world’s first offshore industrial‑scale CO₂ storage project, where Aker Solutions played a key role in engineering the CO₂ capture and subsea injection solution. This expertise has been further strengthened through involvement in Longship, Norway’s full‑scale CCS value chain.

By combining capabilities across in offshore engineering, CO₂ storage development and operations, and marine transportation, the MoU aims to deliver a robust, flexible, and commercially attractive CO₂ transport and storage solution for Europe.
