SIA chosen for FEED at Canadian $12 billion oil project

Fossil Energy – Deepwater Project

The Subsea Integration Alliance (SIA) has won a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract with the Norwegian, state-owned energy firm, Equinor, for a deepwater oil project off the coast of Canada.

This contract builds on the long-term strategic collaboration agreement that SIA signed with Equinor in 2024, enabling early joint concept studies for this and other subsea developments.

SIA will collaborate with Equinor and the wider supply chain to develop the subsea architecture, optimise execution strategies and align engineering, procurement and delivery decisions.

“Bay du Nord is a landmark deepwater project for Equinor and for the Canadian offshore industry. Entering FEED is a decisive moment where early engineering choices have a lasting impact on project value and executability,” said Olivier Blaringhem, Chief Executive Officer of Subsea Integration Alliance.

Situated in the Flemish Pass basin, approximately 500 kilometres northeast of St. John’s, the project was shelved in 2023 due to rising costs.

At the beginning of 2025, Equinor initiated the project by awarding preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) work to BW Offshore and Altera Infrastructure.
