Production has started at Symra oil field in North Sea

Fossil Energy – Production

Today Equinor started production at the Symra oil field in the North Sea, nine months ahead of schedule.

Symra is a subsea development tied back to the Ivar Aasen platform located seven kilometres further southwest. It is estimated to have recoverable resources of approximately 63 million barrels of oil equivalent.

“Projects like these, where new resources are uncovered in areas with existing infrastructure and are brought online quickly, will be more common going forward,” says Marianne Bjelland, Equinor vice president of Johan Sverdrup and Martin Linge.

Equinor’s ambition is to maintain the same production level on the NCS in 2035 as in 2020 – approximately 1.2 million barrels of oil and gas per day.

“Symra shows what’s possible when strong partners work as one: safe delivery, high quality and faster execution,” says Aker BP CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik.
