Ocean Winds scraps Arven South OWF

Sunday, March 22 2026

Wind Energy – Scotland

Ocean Winds has announced plans to return the lease awarded to it for the Arven South offshore wind farm as part of the 2022 Scotwind scheme.

The firm has cited transmission charges as a key factor in its decision.

On Friday, the seabed owner, Crown Estate Scotland, confirmed that it had received an application from the EDP Renewables and Engie joint venture to scrap the development.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Crown Estate Scotland will process Arven South Ltd’s application and respond in due course.”

Ocean Winds UK explained that the decision was made due to the “viability of the site” during the agreed lease period, specifically citing the lack of grid connection options.
