First wind turbine installation for Hai Long 3 OWF

Friday, March 20 2026

Wind Energy – Taiwan

Hai Long Offshore Wind Project announced the offshore installation of the first wind turbine for the Hai Long 3 wind farm.

The nacelle of the turbine installed was assembled locally at Siemens Gamesa’s nacelle assembly facility in Taichung. The offshore installation was carried out by CDWE, Taiwan’s leading large-scale offshore wind marine engineering contractor.

This seamless integration of local assembly and offshore installation represents substantial progress in deep-rooting offshore wind technology within Taiwan.

To install this first turbine CDWE used the jack-up installation vessel Sea Challenger.

In 2025 the vessel underwent a radical conversion at the Seatrium Pioneer Shipyard n Singapore. At the core was the installation of a new Lec Encircling Crane (LEC) with a 1,600-tonne capacity and a 140-metre boom, capable of reaching close to 160 metres above main deck.
