From first turbine to first power in less than two weeks

Wind Energy – First Power

RWE’s offshore wind project Thor has just delivered its first power to the Danish grid.

This milestone took place shortly after the installation of the first turbine.

Focus now turns to the next steps, which will see all 72 Siemens Gamesa turbines brought into commercial operation by 2027. Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm will then be ready to generate enough electricity to supply up to a million Danish households.

RWE’s CEO Markus Krebber says: “Moreover, we are representing a pioneering step toward full lifecycle sustainability for an offshore wind farm: Thor will be the first offshore wind farm in the world to use steel turbine towers that have been manufactured with a lower carbon footprint by Siemens Gamesa. In addition, some of the turbines will be equipped with recyclable rotor blades.”

With RWE’s flagship offshore wind projects Sofia, Nordseecluster, OranjeWind and Thor RWE has a combined installed capacity of 4.8 GW under construction.
