Fossil Energy – Indonesia

PETRONAS has made its first hydrocarbon discovery at the Barokah-1 exploration well.

The well is located within the North Ketapang Production Sharing Contract (PSC), offshore East Java, Indonesia.

PETRONAS is the operator of the North Ketapang PSC with a 51 percent participating interest, while Earthon North Ketapang holds a 34 percent interest, and PT. Pertamina Hulu Energi North Ketapang has a 15 percent stake.

The Barokah-1 well was spudded on 30 November 2025 and successfully drilled to a true vertical depth subsea of 3,315.3 metres. Further studies will be undertaken to fully evaluate the well results and determine the discovery’s potential.
