BOA completes caisson launching Princess Elisabeth Energy Island

Saturday, March 14 2026

General – Caissons

BOA has completed its scope for the Princess Elisabeth Island, the world’s first artificial energy island, located 45 km off the Belgian coast in the North Sea.

BOA was responsible for the launching of 23 concrete caissons, each weighing up to 22.400 tonnes‍.

The operation was carried out using our semi-submersible BOABARGE 33, modified to handle extreme load-out operations over the stern.

BOABARGE 33, with its impressive dimensions (140 × 57.05 × 8.54 m), 5,800 m² of deck space, and the ability to submerge to 21.5 meters above deck, enabled the safe and controlled launching of these enormous structures.

Beyond providing the barge, BOA delivered comprehensive project engineering and operational management, ensuring safe and efficient execution throughout the campaign.
