Paving the way for low-cost floating offshore wind

Thursday, March 12 2026

Wind Energy – Floating Wind

X1 Wind announced that its X100 pre-commercial platform was granted the Statement of Compliance (SoC) for Basic Design by DNV.

This milestone confirms that the platform’s structural design, stability, and hydrodynamic behaviour – including its response to 500-year extreme waves, wind, and currents – are within safe and predictable limits, providing a critical validation of the platform’s integrity and constructability.

The X100, designed for turbines of around 160m rotor diameter, will be deployed and operated under real offshore conditions for several years at the PLEMCAT test site in the Spanish Mediterranean as part of the NextFloat Project.

The platform’s primary steel structure weighs approximately 1,500 tonnes, representing an estimated 30% to 50% reduction compared to traditional steel floaters of similar scale. This saving is made possible by X1 Wind’s hybrid technology, which combines the stability and low environmental footprint of a Tension-Leg Platform (TLP) with the buoyancy of a semi-submersible.

With this milestone, X1 Wind continues to advance a scalable, cost-efficient, and sustainable solution designed to unlock low-cost floating offshore wind worldwide.
