Monday, March 9 2026

Fossil Energy – Steel Cut

The first steel cut on March 6, 2026 in Qingdao’s West Coast New Area for the Kaiping South Field Development Project.

The 100,000-ton cylindrical Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit is Asia’s largest offshore oil and gas factory.

Destined for the Eastern South China Sea, where typhoons are frequent and conditions are harsh, this is no ordinary vessel.

The Kaiping South field is China’s largest deepwater discovery with over 100 million tons of geological reserves.

With a fully loaded displacement exceeding 170,000 tons and a maximum storage capacity of 122,000 cubic meters (second in the world), this FPSO will be the largest and most capable cylindrical unit in Asia.
