Largest refinery in Saudi Arabia hit by drone

Wednesday, March 4 2026

General – Key Facility

Ras Tanura, the largest refinery in Saudi Arabia and one of the world’s largest, has been hit by a drone and has halted operations.

This is unquestionably one of the key Saudi oil facilities, standing just a few hundred kilometres from where U.S. vessels and fighters are pounding Iran.

The refinery, which is a critical gasoil and diesel producer, is the first international oil infrastructure to be hit in the most serious military escalation the region has seen since the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

The region is only in the third day of this conflict, but it looks more and more likely that a full-fledge energy conflict will unfold between all interested parties in the Middle East.
